[ Moving over, he starts to touch the rope of the tent, to undo it. ]

[Guilt starts to eat into Tav’s gut as his gaze drops into the dirt.]

I’m sorry, I—-

[When Astarion touches the rope, Tav shakes his head.] Not yet. Not until I’m sure it’s gone.

You're awake, aren't you?

[ Shaking his head, Astarion relents, sitting down opposite him. ]

You don't have to apologise.

[How does he put this without sounding like a simpering coward?] It’ll come back. Maybe not now, maybe not tonight, but it will come back. And you will likely be the one to suffer for it.

[So clearly, remaining tied up is the solution. Nevermind alll the other dangers that wait for them along the road.]

[ Shaking his head, Astarion frowns. ]

We've discussed this before, haven't we? This isn't you. You have no apologies to make for the behaviour of the thing inside of you.

[Tav releases a shuddering breath where he’s still tied up.]

There was so little warning this time. What if it happened while…

[While they were being intimate is what he doesn’t say, finally raising his pair of mismatched eyes to his love again.]

Then we will deal with it. If it happens.

[ He is unmoving, his expression tight. ]

I don't intend to let any of this stop just because of that thing.

[Another shuddering breath. Tav is exhausted; he hasn’t slept well in days and just woken up from apprently quite the fight.]

Not quite sure I deserve you.

[Just the barest hints of a shit-eating grin.]

Who deserves anything in this world? It's not a balance.

[ Moving closer, he leans in to kiss the corner of his mouth gently. ]

[Tav seems to finally relax when Astarion kisses the edge of his lips and the monster inside doesn’t try to bite him back.

He smiles just a touch and nods.]

And to think you tried to slice my throat open when we first met.

It seemed the most sensible solution, given what had happened.

[ He leans back, glancing around the camp - still quiet enough. ]

And what continues to happen. [And another heavy sigh. The light of dawn colors the tips of his boots rose and tangerine and Tav considers it must be safe for Astarion now.]

It should be safe to untie me now.

And we will continue to deal with it.

[ Astarion reaches around, undoing the rope bindings with a soft hum. ]

There we are.

[Tav rubs his sore wrists for a moment or two, still watching Astarion. The vampire may have full confidence in their ability to handle this darkness inside him, but Tav is not, especially not after last night with so little warning.]

I wasn’t given a task this time. Last, I was told to kill Isobel or suffer consequences. There was no such thing this time. Only the darkness and the urges.

[A sigh.] It’s getting worse.
